Gotham Media is a digital strategy, marketing and communications firm that empowers our clients to reach out directly to prospective clients and customers.
Fair enough, but what does that actually mean? Simply stated, we analyze what you’re doing, what your competitors are doing and then put together a plan to do it better. Finally, we execute a seamless communications plan that might combine social media, blogging, events, SEO and traditional media outreach. No two plans are the same. They’re all customized to your individual needs.
Our background in journalism, law, and entrepenurial business enables us to bring a unique perspective to each engagement. While there are other, often larger, firms that promise individual attention, we deliver upon our promise to work with you every step of the way. What’s more, our work is guided by data and continuous investigation, examination and re-examination, not by instinct.
Gotham Media was founded by Gordon Platt, an attorney, television producer, and former Executive Director of the Poliak Center for First Amendment Issues at Columbia University. Platt launched Gotham Media in 2007 as a conference company with a focus on innovation in media, technology, advertising, finance and law. Since then, he has transformed the company into a full service strategic communications and marketing company.
Platt began his career as an investigative journalist. Over the years he covered stories ranging from the secret Iraqi arms network to New York’s notorious Latin Kings to the disappearance of Whitey Bulger. His major investigation of a corrupt statewide drug task force in Texas led to the exoneration of dozens of falsely convicted citizens, many facing decades in prison.
Platt was, for many years, an investigative producer at ABC News Nightline. At Nightline he received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including an Emmy Award and a Dupont Columbia Silver Baton.Platt left Nightline to launch a documentary production company, Gotham Media Films. There he produced films for numerous cable and network channels, including The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, Court TV and ESPN.
It was at Gotham Media Films that he also began to produce live events. Early clients included the Ford Foundation, The New York State Court of Appeals, and the Association of State Legislatures. Platt is a graduate of Dartmouth College (summa cum laude), the London School of Economics and Harvard Law School, and is member of the New York and Massachusetts bars. He and his wife, Jodi Katz, live in Chappaqua, New York where they are employed by their three sons and Labrador Retriever, Mac.
